Viewing this brief video clip very well may transport you back in time to when parents actually took control and responsibility for raising their children. A time when “punishment” actually became a part of the building blocks within the formation of a youngsters character.

However, we weren’t transported back to the 1950’s we were actually witnessing a young mother in 2017 in Shreveport, Louisiana, dispensing discipline to her child, perhaps to the dismay of the politically correct left.

According to Fox-8 News, Demetris Payne’s young son was suspended from school for disciplinary infractions, and rather than simply sitting at home, perhaps watching TV or playing computer games, the young mom decided to punish him in an unusual way, renting him out to neighbors performing “free yard work.”

Payne came up with the unique approach by posting a message on Facebook offering her son’s service ‘FREE OF CHARGE” on the websites job board titled “South Bossier Online Yard Sale.” The post reads,

“My son has been suspended for three days from school for discipline. He will do your lawn service; he will rake your yard, mow if you supply the mower, pick up trash, or wash your car for free. Maximum three hours. If anyone has a rake they would like to donate will be awesome.”

As expected mom’s tough love approach has generated a lot of feedback, mostly positive.

Moreover, the response to her son’s service has also garnered a lot of feedback from individuals, which prompted mom to repost; “He’s booked up for this weekend.”

The brief heartwarming video captures mom encouraging her son’s efforts in mowing a lawn, raking up leaves, and supporting his endeavor.

First yard complete 😂😂😂 He thought I was playing... 😀😀

On Tuesday, Payne shared an update, saying her son was back at school.

“Look who’s back at school. Meeting with all his teachers and set up a plan so we can make sure he stays on track,” she wrote.

Perhaps this might be a teaching moment for those who consider this sort of “punishment” as some form of child abuse, rather than what it is…a guidepost for building character and taking responsibility for one's actions.

Do you think parents should get back to the fundamentals principles of discipline?
