Grave injustice just occurred with the acquittal of Jose Ines Garcia Zarate, an illegal immigrant that shot and killed Kate Steinle on a pier in San Francisco in 2015.

The Justice Department has now stepped in and said it will investigate the case further. DOJ spokesperson Sarah Isgur Flores told Fox News that Zarate could still face a number of felony charges, including illegal re-entry into the country. Flores also urged for San Francisco and other sanctuary cities to reconsider their policies.

Though acquitted of murder, Zarate was convicted of being a felon and owning a firearm. The charge, though, means Zarate may only serve as little as 16-months in prison.

Steinle's murder was completely preventable. Zarate was previously deported five times and specifically sought refuge in San Francisco because he knew city officials would protect him.

Fox News' Sean Hannity weighed in on the issue with an opening monologue that was absolutely on point:

"They followed these ridiculous liberal policies, and because of their stupidity and their 'form of justice' and caring more about the rights of illegals, convicted felons, tonight Kate Steinle is dead and her family has received no justice."

President Trump has chimed in as well and also placed blame on Obama for awarding federal grants to multiple sanctuary cities.

People like Hannity and the President are echoing the sentiment of most Americans not part of the far left. They are sick of seeing law-abiding American citizens fall victim to senseless acts of violence. When these acts occur, it's not just the perpetrator at fault but also the fault of the liberal policy makers that represent these progressive cities.

Is this all the more reason to build the wall?
