Sometimes the people of California get it right. When fallen Staff Sergeant Jonathan Turner had been cremated, and it was learned by a Patriot Guard that Turner's remains were to be incomprehensibly and insensitively shipped home to his mother, in a FedEx box, they took action.

The California Patriot Guard, part of the nationwide Patriot Guard biker club, made arrangements to escort Staff Sergeant Turner home to his mom in Georgia. They rounded up all the Captains of the group between California and Georgia, and enlisted a convoy of Guard Riders who relayed Turner’s remains across the country and into his mother’s embrace.

The Patriot Guard were completely appalled, as well they should, by the despicable behavior of whoever in the Marine Corps decided shipping a fallen soldier’s, somebody’s son’s, remains via FedEx was even remotely appropriate.

The Guard said this of Turner;

“Turner was a great leader who inspired his fellow Marines, both in the Corps and in daily life. You were his friend if you knew him for five minutes or five years. He would give you the shirt off his back.”

Yet, the powers that be saw his service to our country, defending and dying for our freedoms, meritorious of a FedEx box. There are no words to describe the disgust of this situation. How often does this happen?

The Patriot Guard acted with the type of honor that the Marine Corps should have. “The few, the proud” upper echelons of management who handle funeral arrangements should be ashamed of themselves. What happened to Semper Fi, never leave a man behind, once a marine always a marine? He died for them, as well as the rest of the citizens of the United States of America. He was a veteran of a war. They stuck him in a cardboard box.

Turner’s mother, Abby Glanton, ever grateful for the Patriot Guard, said this;

“It’s heartwarming, to see all these people here…I know that he was loved by a lot of people.”

May God bless her in her time of sorrow and pain, one that no parent should have to experience.

Thank you Staff Sergeant Turner for your service and honor to God, country, and family.

Thank you Patriot Guard for doing an amazing and compassionate thing such as this.
