“If she, God forbid, gets into 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue... then God help us all.”

Georgia Congressman Doug Collins is a curiosity in Congress – in addition to having a law degree as most member do, but he also has a degree in Divinity, serving as a chaplain in the U.S. Air Force Reserve Chaplain, so when he issues a plea for divine intervention during a congressional hearing, you know he believes it’s important.

Collins’s remark came as he questioned FBI Director James Comey, who was on Capitol Hill yet again, trying to explain his decision to withhold a recommendation for a Department of Justice prosecution after a more than year-long investigation into Hillary Clinton’s secret email set-up.

Clinton’s resume was central to Collins’s question, noting that the Secretary claims valuable experience at the highest level of government while at the same time portraying herself as a naïve, tech-challenged Baby Boomer.

“Do you honestly believe that a woman of vast intelligence who was a first lady of the United States, who was a senator — who was a secretary of state — do you believe that in this case honestly, that she wasn’t grossly negligent or criminal in her acts?” Collins asked, referencing Comey’s claim that Clinton could not be successfully prosecuted because she didn’t know what she was doing was wrong.

The federal statute governing the protection of government documents requires only “gross negligence” as proof of a violation, which is a felony offense.

In response, Comey said his decision was based on his belief that a prosecution by the Department of Justice would not be successful in proving the charges, adding, “I don’t believe anyone other than my wife,” but the aside failed to raise a smile from Collins.

The hearing was frequently contentious with Comey angrily defending not only his own role in the decision, but the FBI agents who investigated Clinton, calling them “a group of professionals,” adding, “so if I blew it they blew it too.”

Collins was unfazed by Comey’s outburst, calling out Clinton as his time expired before closing with “God help us all.”

“Bring down the curtain. There’s a wizard behind the thing, Ms. Hillary Clinton, who is playing all of us, because she’s not that naive, she is not stupid.”
