Mexican border buster Rosa Maria Ortega thought she could game the system in Texas by registering to vote an astonishing five times in local elections before she was caught.

Here's the kicker: Ortega voted as a registered Republican.

Ortega was finally caught when she tried and failed to vote twice in Tarrant County. She was later found guilty of two counts of illegal voting and sentenced to eight years in prison.

That's about 1 1/2 years in the slammer for each time she voted illegally between 2012 and 2014.

Ortega, 37, also has to pay a $5,000 fine and will be deported immediately after her sentence has been served.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, a Republican, said Ortega's conviction sends a clear message that the state does not tolerate voter fraud.

“This case shows how serious Texas is about keeping its elections secure, and the outcome sends a message that violators of the state’s election law will be prosecuted to the fullest,” Paxton said in a statement. “Safeguarding the integrity of our elections is essential to preserving our democracy.”

President Trump has estimated that 3 million illegal aliens voted in 2016 and that it cost him the popular vote. While Democrats ridiculed the president's math, JustFacts has revealed that 594,000 to 5.7 million noncitizens voted in the 2008 election.

In 2012, 3.2 million to 5.6 million noncitizens had registered to vote, while 1.2 million to 3.6 million actually voted, JustFacts found.

America has a serious problem with voter fraud and it undermines the importance of citizenship and the integrity of the electoral process. In College Park, Maryland, city council members are considering passage of a resolution that would allow noncitizens to vote.

Clearly, the nation's electoral laws need to be upheld in obeyance with constitutional mandates.

It doesn't matter if Ortega was registered to vote as a Republican or Democrat. She broke the law -- several times -- and deserved her punishment.
