Miami-Dade Police Officer, Mario Gutierrez’s memory is still a blur when it comes to the gun-and-knife fight he found himself in two years ago.

While stopped at a service station, Gutierrez noticed a man tampering with the lids to the station’s underground fuel storage tanks in an attempt to set them on fire.

Officer Gutierrez shut the pumps down and then confronted the perpetrator, Dominque Jean.

However, Jean did not comply reasonably, and instead drew a knife and screw driver and began repeatedly stabbing Officer Gutierrez.

Gutierrez was able to draw his firearm and defend himself, killing Jean’s.

Gutierrez, while having little memory of that night said his drive to return to his family is what kept him going, in his life and death battle, to come out victorious against Jean.

It is also a reminder to all of us that thuggery against our men and women in blue has been on-going for a very long time and it needs to stop.
