VIDEO: 84-Yr Old Supreme Court Justice Ginsberg Just Called 3-Term Male U.S. Senator A Female To College Audience
U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg could probably be forgiven for having mistakenly identified three-term Senator Lindsay Graham (R-South Carolina) as a woman if Ginsburg weren't such a freaking liberal.
We mean, c'mon.
Maybe Ginsburg was talking about some other person -- "Lyndsey Graham," perhaps -- but it's really doubtful.
The 84-year-old Ginsburg made her erroneous gender reference during a recent award acceptance speech at Allegheny College. Both Ginsburg and the late SCOTUS justice Antonin Scalia were the honored recipients of the award.
“I thought back to the 1993 confirmation of my nomination to the court—the hearing was altogether civil, the vote was 96 to 3. For Justice Scalia, the vote was unanimous,” Ginsburg said. “Let’s hope members of Congress, the members that Allegheny College has already honored — Vice President Joe Biden and Senator John McCain, the women of the Senate, Senators Dianne Feinstein and Lindsey Graham — let’s hope that they and others of goodwill will lead in restoring harmonious work ways.”
Let's hope Ginsburg gets her genders straight when making landmark court decisions that could affect the natural order of the universe.
At the risk of sounding ageist, maybe it's time for the honorable Justice Ginsburg to consider greener pastures and retirement, leaving a spot open for a conservative nominee to fill. Then, there would be a 6-3 Republican majority on the bench.
Something to think about.
In all fairness to Ginsburg, there is a certain androgynous look about the good Senator Graham that might confuse someone with bad gender identification skills or failing eyesight.
Ginsburg is in good company, though, for not being the only octogenarian public figure who can't readily tell the difference between the sexes.
In July 2014, the comedian Joan Rivers (died Sept. 14, 2014 at age 81) was asked by a photographer if she believed the United States would ever see the first gay or female president.
"We already have it with Obama, so let's just calm down," Rivers said. "You know Michelle (Obama) is a trans. A transgender. We all know it."
We really miss you, Joan.
