Trump Has These Surprising Words For Bernie Sanders
The 2016 election has been startlingly different in so many regards. Perhaps most startling, if there can be one thing, is the fact that two outsiders separated from the Washington establishment by their ideas and backgrounds--think Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders--have garnered so much national support and attention.
Though Sanders has allowed Hillary Clinton to basically clinch the Democratic nomination, Donald Trump, someone who hasn't said much about Sander's campaign, finally came out with what he thinks would be a great idea for the Sanders campaign.
Make a bid as an independent.
"Bernie Sanders has been treated terribly by the Democrats – both with delegates & otherwise. He should show them, and run as an Independent!" Trump recently tweeted out.
A Sanders independent bid would place Hillary Clinton in an interesting situation for sure. Sanders has almost unanimously captured the young, Left vote, and if he ran as an independent he would surely siphon votes from Hillary's camp and diminish her campaign's strategy.
And Sanders hasn't denied that he would attempt an independent bid for President. When reporters asked him if he would encourage his supporters to back Hillary Clinton in the election he wouldn't give an answer. All he said was that they should make their own decisions.
"We’re not a movement where I can snap my fingers and say to you or to anybody else what you should do, that you should all listen to me. You shouldn’t. You make these decisions yourself."
It's not as if Trump feels a lot of camaraderie with Sanders as it is. Sanders hasn't pulled any punches when it comes to insulting Trump and it's clear that the socialist thinks Trump is off-balance mentally.
But the person who might have the most to gain from an independent Sanders run could very well be Trump himself. If the Democrats were split, that might make all the more room for a disliked but electable Trump to tread his own path to the White House.
