Trump Says Clinton is Using An Old Trick to Try And “Rig” Televised Debates
During this past year's Democratic presidential debates, the Democratic National Committee decided to schedule the debates at odd times, like Saturday nights or nights when other events might take precedence. Republican nominee Donald Trump is criticizing Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton for working with the debate scheduling committee to do the same thing.
Trump accused the Commission on Presidential Debates of working with Clinton to schedule presidential debates during NFL games this fall. While the Clinton campaign has remained silent in the face of accusations, it wouldn't be the first time that Clinton tried to rig the debate schedule.
Even Bernie Sanders, someone who was praised for his lack of personal attacks during debates, said that it was likely that Clinton scheduled the debates during odd times to decrease the viewership of the debates.
Trump, for his part, was furious about the scheduling and wouldn't confirm that he would accept the schedule.
"Well, I’ll tell you what I don’t like. It’s against two NFL games. I got a letter from the NFL saying, ‘This is ridiculous..."
The NFL, for their part, has denied sending any such letter to Trump, but the sentiment is clear and remains. Why would the NFL wish to hurt viewership with its fans by competing with the debate. Like Trump, they want the most people possible to tune in.
Clinton, however, has a tarnished record and is renowned for turning down reporters questions during her campaigning and refusing to answer questions that were posed to her. Would she try and hide behind a few NFL games to limit viewers access to Trump poking holes in her arguments--of course she would.
"You know, Hillary Clinton wants to be against the NFL," Trump said.
And of course she does. Trump, for his part, will still pull a large crowd whenever he debates. It's just such a shame that these behind the scenes plans would still be in place to protect Clinton from public scrutiny. It's a crying shame.
