Seriously, who in their right mind would go to a party if they knew they were going to treated as the unwashed butt of ridicule and abuse?

President Donald Trump saw the handwriting on the personal invitation to the annual White House press corps bash, and did the right thing.

He politely declined.

“Next Saturday night I will be holding a BIG rally in Pennsylvania. Look forward to it!” Trump tweeted.

Once a year, some 2,500 members of the illustrious press corps -- those shameless purveyors of lies, innuendo and "fake news" -- file into the Washington Hilton at Dupont Circle to luxuriate in the booze, cheap shop-talk and reporter "chic."

Unless you've worked in the media you will come to realize what a tooth-pulling treat it is having to listen to these blowhards taking themselves way too seriously.

Some reporters are actually nice people -- or, they try to be.

"I feel bad, because a lot of White House reporters are going to have to go and cover that and not come to our own dinner,” Julie Mason, a SiriusXM host and former WHCA board member, told The Hill when she realized Trump wouldn't be attending the gala press event.

“It’s one thing for him to stay home, and that was fine," Mason added. "And he can just tweet about us and be mean, and that would be kind of funny, and it would feel right. But for him to stage a competing event — we just can’t even have our dinner? We just can’t even do that?”

After the way the media has been ripping into him 24/7 since Trump announced he was running for president, why on earth would he lower himself into this infested media shark pool by the grace of his presence?

Why set yourself up to be a target for media vitriol, disguised as good humor, and served cold on a hotel platter?

Trump knows how to party. And he doesn't need media kill-joys to do it in limousine style and at a place of his choosing.

Please share this on Facebook if you agree with President Trump's decision not to attend the annual White House press corps party in Washington.
