"White guilt" is a term that has been exploding on the campuses of liberal colleges and universities for the last several years. In a nutshell it encapsulates the evils that have been perpetrated by white humans in the past and demands that today's white people accept responsibility and blame.

But one liberal college, Portland Community College, is taking the idea of "white guilt" to a whole new level.

The campus has instituted what it is calling "White History Month." But, unlike Black History Month which is a celebration of the great men and women who have worked against the tyranny of racism, slavery, and oppression, White History Month is just a month devoted to making white people feel guilty.

PCC describes the month as "a multidisciplinary, district-wide, educational project examining race and racism through an exploration of the construction of whiteness, its origins, and heritage." That white "construct," according to the college, is to blame for much of the inequality that has occurred in human history.

As part of the month-long guilt party, PCC aims to discuss and flesh-out how differences in skin color has impacted every aspect of life including the "legal, cultural, economic, social, environmental, educational, and/or intrapersonal consequences of whiteness."

While no one in their right mind can deny the fact that racism and slavery were evil, evil things in the history of white people, the fact that those things happened in the past should matter more than these liberals are giving credit.

Every culture has terrible things in its past. Cannibalism, mass genocides, conquests in the name of religion, and brutal, ritualized murders. But just because something happened in the past does not mean it will repeat itself.

The American dream and American ideals are all about the potential for human change and action. By focusing on "white guilt" and punishing today's fairer-skinned people for what their racist ancestors did these progressive groups are simply creating unrest and more racist thoughts and feelings.

Let's put these crazy notions to rest, apologize one last time for anything the evil white people may have done in the past, and move on. Will that finally make everyone happy?
