Texas Bill Will Make Any Attack On A Police Officer a HATE CRIME
This latest ambush assassination “execution style” of a police officer in Texas is hopefully the “last straw” that something drastic and consequential needs to be done, immediately.
And this stunning proposal my lawmakers is just the ticket, in that willfully assaulting a law enforcement officer should be considered a “hate crime” similar to that targeting someone because of race, gender or religion.
Obviously when you purposely target an individual simply because that person is wearing a police uniform, that by any reasonable standard is a “hate crime” and should be treated as such within the criminal justice system.
Republican State Rep. Jason Villalba, who sponsored the bill explained: “We’re going to ask that it become an emergency legislative item for the governor so that as soon as we get to Austin in January, we pass it right away, make it law right away.”
There’s little argument that since President Obama has been in office, the nation has witnessed a marked increase in violence towards police officers, in part because both the Justice Department and the White House have purposely polarized and “poisoned the well” between at risk communities and the police.
Moreover the “war on police” isn’t simply a catch phrase, all one needs to do is look at the heartbreaking data in that this year alone 56-officers have been gunned down in the line of duty, up over 70% from the year before, and we still have almost two month to go before the end of the year.
Now that Obama is leaving office this type of bill could make a lot progress federally.
