There’s indeed little doubt that America is the land of free and the “home of the brave!” However it’s also the home of morons and the willful and blissfully ignorant, and as proof simply look towards 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

That absurdity could not have been accomplished without dedicated idiots like 22-year old Bryton Mellott who on July 4th decided to burn the American Flag and then post a picture of himself doing the deed online.

Now to any reasoned human being one could almost imagine what followed next, especially on the 4th of July, and although Mellott apparently expected reaction from his post along with the photo stating in part: “I am not proud to be an American. In this moment, being proud of my country is to ignore the atrocities committed against people of color, people living in poverty, people who identify as women, and against my own queer community on a daily basis.”

“I would like to one day feel a sense of pride toward my nationality again. But too little progress has been made. Too many people still suffer at the hands of politicians influenced by special interests. Too many people are still being killed and brutalized by a police force plagued with authority complexes and racism.”

And while his post is no doubt a reasoned discourse on how he views America, purposely burning “OLD GLORY” negates any reasoned discourse, which of course set off a massive backlash and a lot of unwelcome publicity, which landed the hapless Walmart employee behind bars for desecrating the American Flag which is a class four felony in Illinois, under section 49-1.

He ended his rant with the following:
“I do not have pride in my country. I am overwhelmingly ashamed, and I will demonstrate my feelings accordingly. ‪#‎ArrestMe‬”

It looks like the police granted him his wish after all.
