The liberal Underground Railroad commonly known as the "Sanctuary City" is headed for a head-on collision with Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

Sessions just announced that so-called sanctuary communities that continue to operate in defiance of President Trump's order to stand down will lose access to certain federal law enforcement grants.

It's no idle threat. Trump said as much would occur when he announced earlier in the year that the days of the sanctuary community are numbered.

Sessions said the DOJ will block federal law enforcement grants to sanctuary jurisdictions in 2017 "if they prohibit officials from communicating with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, if they block ICE from interviewing jail inmates, or if they fail to notify ICE of the pending release of criminal aliens ICE is seeking to deport," the Daily Signal reports.

"It is significant because a large share of the funds awarded in this program go to sanctuary jurisdictions," the story adds. "For example, according to Justice Department records, the four largest grants, and seven out of the top 10 recipients of the Byrne/JAG grants are sanctuaries."

There are an estimated 300 sanctuary jurisdictions in the U.S. that receive federal dollars but which refuse to comply with federal immigration laws. The government has had little recourse up until now.

The government blocking the flow of federal grants to sanctuary communities is like imposing economic sanctions. They hit these scofflaw communities where it hurts them the most -- in the municipal budget.

These grants also provide sanctuary jurisdictions with the means with which to increase or improve the effectiveness of law enforcement at the local level. A more cynical person might tell you that the loss of federal law enforcement grants will have the unwelcome punitive effect of leaving these "welcoming" communities vulnerable to the crimes that will likely be committed by the wonderful "Dreamers" that are illegally harbored.

You reap what you invite in.

Do you think that cutting federal law enforcement grants to sanctuary jurisdictions will force them to stop? Tell us what you think will happen in the comment section below.
