With friends like former FBI director/memo leaker James Comey, Special Counsel Robert Mueller doesn't need enemies like Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ).

Franks, a member of the House Judiciary Committee, on Tuesday called for Mueller's resignation, citing numerous conflicts of interest that undermine Mueller's ability to conduct an impartial investigation into Russia's alleged interference in the 2016 election.

“Bob Mueller is in clear violation of federal code and must resign to maintain the integrity of the investigation into alleged Russian ties,” Franks said in a statement. “Those who worked under them have attested he [Mueller] and Jim Comey possess a close friendship, and they have delivered on-the-record statements effusing praise of one another.”

Mueller and Comey reportedly share a close bond as "brothers in arms," according to observers.

Comey is currently facing major scrutiny after he admitted to leaking personal memos of his private meetings with President Trump to discuss alleged "Russian collusion" and other matters to the press.

Having a close personal relationship with the man who is investigating you certainly precludes any absence of bias on Mueller's part. Franks states in no uncertain terms that "until Mueller resigns, he will be in clear violation of the law, a reality that fundamentally undermines his role as special counsel and attending ability to execute the law."

Franks notes that Mueller has hired no less than three lawyers for his legal team who have given money to Hillary Clinton. This puts Mueller in further conflict as special counsel and further hampers his ability to conduct a non-partisan investigation.

Democrats will likely try to block any attempts to remove Mueller from his pivotal role that will determine the course and the outcome of this investigation. So far, the allegations that the Russian government helped manufacture Trump's victory in November have come up empty.

As a matter of ensuring the integrity of the process, Mueller must resign.

Is Rep. Trent Franks correct in demanding the resignation of Special Counsel Robert Mueller over his apparent conflicts of interest? Will he resign? Your thoughts on this subject are welcome in the comment section below.
