When President Obama skipped Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia's funeral, pundits on both sides of the political spectrum were shocked. Sure Scalia was one of the most conservative justices that have ever served on the court, but Obama showed intense disrespect by skipping the funeral. It seems that behavior is only set to continue.

President Obama has recently announced that he will skip the funeral of former First Lady Nancy Reagan who passed away last week. Nancy Reagan's funeral will be Friday in California, but Obama won't even be in the state.

Instead, Obama will be attending South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas, an annual arts, movie, and music festival.

Though he expressed his condolences and his wife, Michelle Obama, will be in attendance, Obama's absence makes these words seem even less genuine than some of his other remarks:

"As somebody who is lucky enough to have an extraordinary partner in my life as well, I know how much she meant not just to President Reagan but to the country as a whole."

Obama, however, doesn't seem to value Nancy Reagan's life as much as he does catching the latest showing of a new Peewee Herman movie which will be debuting at SXSW. If Nancy Reagan really meant anything to Obama he would have made it a point to attend her funeral.

The saddest part is that Obama wouldn't be missing much if he skipped a day of SXSW to attend the funeral. The conference is a multi-day event and the Friday events, besides the Peewee Herman movie, include other films and a comedy performance.

Isn't celebrating the life of one of the great First Ladies more important than watching a film, even an artsy one?

Obama is letting his personal desires get in the way of his duty as president. It's a good thing we only have to put up with this for a few more months!
