VIDEO: Obama Uses Orlando Memorial to Politic Over Gun Control
If President Obama had his way the Second Amendment would no longer apply to any Americans. That's never been clearer than now, in the days following the worst mass-shooting in recent history in Orlando, Florida.
Obama spoke at a memorial service honoring the victims on Thursday, but instead of paying tribute to their lives and showing support for the grieving families, he took the chance to politic over gun control.
This isn't a new tactic by Democrats and those who wish to take away Second Amendment rights from Americans. They all profess to feel sorrow for the victims of mass shootings, but then turn around and immediately begin blaming Republicans and "the gun lobby" for the actions of terrorists and psychopaths.
True to Democratic form, Obama called out Republicans for opposing bans on assault weapons and praised liberals for trying to pass such bans again in Congress.
"The notion that the answer to this tragedy would be to make sure that more people in a nightclub are similarly armed to the killer defies common sense. ... I hope that senators who voted no on background checks after Newtown have a change of heart, and then I hope the House does the right thing and helps end the plague of violence that these weapons of war inflict."
Several liberal senators, including the senator from Connecticut, are trying hard to push Congress into a vote to ban assault-style weapons and increase the stringency of background checks.
Unfortunately, this is perhaps the worst time to be thinking about making those decisions. Emotions are hot, people have been killed, and everyone wants a solution no matter the cost.
If there is ever to be a change in the gun laws of our country, it needs to happen when the men and women making our laws are sober and calm so that they can consider all sides and angles equally, without jumping to conclusions.
Obama, slow down and think. It was a tragedy, but should we have to relinquish our rights just because a psychopath wrongly used his? I don't think so.
