Less than 12 hours after Donald Trump officially accepted the nomination of the Republican party with a record-breaking 76-minute speech that reiterated the major themes of his campaign, including securing the U.S. border with Mexico and deporting illegal aliens, President Obama proved that politics trumps everything for him – always.

Standing with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, the president began scheduled comments by ignoring border violence, the importation of drugs by powerful cartels and the hundreds of Americans held in Mexican jails, to paint a rosy picture of relations between the two countries.

“Let me start by saying something that is too often overlooked, but bears repeating — especially given some of the heated rhetoric that we sometimes hear,” Obama began, the dig at Trump a special gift to the Mexican president who has compared the Republican nominee to dictators Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini.

Obama wasn’t just insulting a Republican who wants to prevent former Obama administration cabinet member Hillary Clinton from continuing his policies, or even dismissing the 14 million Americans who voted for Trump in the primaries – he was ignoring hundreds of Americans who made the mistake of running afoul of the corrupt Mexican criminal “justice” system.

Obama called Mexico “partners, neighbors, friends and family,” apparently forgetting about U.S. Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi who spent 214 in a Mexican jail for the crime of driving in the wrong lane at a border entry and declaring that he had legal guns in his vehicle.

In Mexico, the government is not required to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt – the accused must prove his innocence.

And the sad truth is, Americans who find themselves in a Mexican jail quickly learn that one thing they can count on is the White House will not intervene on their behalf.

Sgt. Tahmooressi learned that the hard way as he waited for President Obama to help.

After his release, he also learned that Donald Trump had pushed for his release anonymously and long before his run for the presidency.

Tahmooressi also received a sizeable check from Trump to help him get back on his feet.

Those are facts President Obama didn’t mention as he chose to stand with the President of Mexico.
