Obama: I Could Win Third Term, Wants To “Keep America Moving” With Another 4 Years
“If the president can fail to enforce immigration laws, can the president likewise fail to enforce election laws?” That pointed question was asked by Rep. Trey Gowdy, of South Carolina of Simon Lazarus, senior counsel to the Constitutional Accountability Center.
Rep Gowdy continued; “If the president can fail to enforce immigration laws, can the president ... throw away the 22nd Amendment just because he feels like it and run for a third term?
However listening to Obama on 60 Minutes, one gets the impression (and rightly so), that the 22nd Amendment is of no consequence when asked by Steve Kroft if he could win a third term as president, Obama without hesitation answered “Yes. I do,” and added he would “love to do some more.” When referencing a third term Obama said "“There’s a lot that I’d like to do to keep America moving."
And that chilling thought no doubt, has crossed many a mind, and the fact that Obama didn’t need a second or two to ponder that question is indeed worrisome. And although he assured Americans he would follow the lead of previous presidents before him, this is a president that simply cannot be trusted.
His dubious history of cherry picking what laws to enforce and which to ignore are well documented, and his comparisons to the nation’s first president George Washington, suggests a somewhat self-delusional overview of himself.
Rather then what is actually factual in that there’s a long list of broken promises, willful deception, coupled by a stubborn ideology, and an arrogant refusal to actually execute his oath of office under our Constitution.
The 22nd Amendment to the Constitution was ratified in 1951, and reads:
No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.
