Seattle Seahawks defensive Michael Bennett isn't above stretching the truth about an alleged racist cop incident in Las Vegas last month.

Bennett, who has taken up the cop-hating national anthem protest mantle of Colin Kaepernick, claims an officer threatened to "blow his f***ing head off" while being detained.

"On Saturday, August 26, 2016, I was in Las Vegas to attend the Mayweather-McGregor fight on my day off," Bennett said in a statement posted online.

"After the fight while heading back to my hotel several hundred people heard what sounded like gun shots. Like many of the people in the area, I ran away from the sound, looking for safety. Las Vegas police officers singled me out and pointed their guns at me for doing nothing more than being a black man at the wrong place at the wrong time," Bennett said.

TMZ Sports said the facts in the incident tell a different story:

"Sources connected to the investigation tell TMZ Sports when cops responded to the club for a possible shooting, they ordered everyone to get down and not move so they could properly search and investigate," TMZ Sports reported.

"We're told Bennett did not stay put — instead, he ran — and a cop outside the club stopped him and ordered him down to the ground at gunpoint. Our sources say Bennett was detained until cops could determine he was not involved in any possible criminal activity and he was released."

Watch the short video and decide for yourself who's telling the truth.

There is nothing in the footage that would indicate a "real life threat of being killed" is imminent. The video instead shows an enraged Bennett hollering while being forced to lie face down on the sidewalk while a police officer places him in handcuffs.

The officer's service weapon is secure in its holster and there is nothing audible to suggest he is about to "blow" Bennett's head off.

Fiction is so much better than truth when you are a NFL sports figure trying to stir the simmering pot of racial animosity.

Will the video of Bennett being detained by cops dispel any misconceptions about what happened in Las Vegas on Aug. 26.
