Most working middle class Americans I suspect would be extremely pleased to earn a salary of between $175-224K a year with a guaranteed month vacation in August, and with an excellent private insurance plan (not a single payer) in which 75% of the premiums are paid for by the employer.

One might ask where is this Utopian world of extraordinary perks and unimaginable benefits? And the answer of course is within those halls of congress, to those men and woman “we the people”, send to congress, to those that reference themselves “public servants!”

Perhaps that may be the reason why Iowa Republican Rep. Rod Blum introduced legislation Friday that would decrease congressional members’ salaries annually until the national budget is balanced.

Lawmakers’ pay would be docked 5% the first year and an additional 10% each year after, according to the legislation. The Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2016 would restore compensation levels upon the closure of the deficit.

Rep. Blum said in a statement; “As a career small businessman, I know firsthand the consequences when businesses mismanage resources. But unlike the private sector, Congress faces no penalties for failure; year after year we’ve seen the same thing: grand promises of future savings while our national debt continues to skyrocket”.

It’s not by accident that mega businessman Donald Trump as captured the imagination of hard-working Americans, for to long the elite political ruling class, on both sides of the political aisle, those career politicians who have “gamed” the system and are slowly driving America to the brink of financial ruin.

Do you think Congress should take a pay cut until they can get things in fiscal order for the country?

This might be the only incentive a notoriously ineffective Congress has in getting anything done that is positive for the people.
