Muslims Everywhere Enraged After Learning Planned Mosque At Ground Zero Is Shutdown
Most of us can still recall where we were and what we were doing on that infamous day, and if you’re a New Yorker you have perhaps a personal recollection of that day, the sights and the sounds, and the horror of witnessing first hand the mass carnage unfolding before your eyes, and perhaps the personal loss of friends and colleagues.
And although the wounds of September 11th 2001 were still open and raw, a radical Imam named Feisal Abdul Rauf in 2004 attempted to push through a project known then as the Cordoba Initiative, a 13-story, $100 million mosque/Islamic Center, and just 600 feet from Ground Zero.
The project name was later changed to “Park 51”, in an attempt to hide the true meaning of what “Cordoba” actually signifies to Muslims, in that the first Cordoba mosque was built upon the ruins of a Christian church in the Spanish city of Cordoba after the Muslim conquest of Christian Spain in the 8th century AD.
However after countless demonstrations and protests by outraged New Yorker's, and years of court battles the initial proposal was defeated. However Islam is a persistent enemy and the battle continued for years with yet another unsavory developer behind the Ground Zero Mosque initiative, this one named Sharif El-Gamal, who now is saying he will not push for a mosque near Ground Zero, but instead plans to build a 667-foot condominium tower at lower Manhattan’s 45 Park Place.
And although the proposal has been defeated again, for now, rest assured that this battle will continue, and New Yorker's need to be vigilant.
