Words do indeed mean things, however in this particular instance it’s perhaps the deed behind the word that’s relevant, and therefore we should be careful before we speak.

However changing the words to the Pledge of Allegiance is seldom a good idea, no matter how noble the intent, and perhaps that is exactly what certain students at this Rocky Mountain High School in Colorado had in mind, with the obvious intent to be controversial, and obviously they’ve succeeded.

A group of students calling themselves the Cultural Arms Club decided to replace the word “God” to “Allah”, within the Pledge of Allegiance, which of course drew an immediate reaction from both parents and students alike.

The obvious in-your-face attempt to instigate an already sensitive issue in America seems to be what motivated this group, which had   Principal Tom Lopez attempting some damage control  “These students love this country,” he said, “They were not being un-American in trying to do this. They believed they were accentuating the meaning of the words as spoken regularly in English.”

Perhaps it would be a good idea if Principal Lopez reacquaint himself with America’s founding documents and reference how many times "Allah" appears within them.

Principal Lopez

Danielle Clark, the communications director for the school district commented as well, “We understand not everybody would agree with the students’ choice. We’ve heard there are some who are upset.”

And perhaps it would be a lot more enlightening for all, if Miss Clark replaced the word “Allah” with “God”, within the Koran and let’s see how that fly’s!

What do you think? Have these students and school administrators crossed the line by using the word Allah in schools pledge of allegiance?
