Why do liberals always assume racist intent every time they see or hear the use of a word historically associated with people of color in a completely different cultural context?

For instance, Clara Jeffrey, editor of the liberal Mother Jones magazine, has got her deerskin leather frill all in a bunch over the name "Tomahawk missile."

Jeffrey believes Native Americans ought to be offended by it. She doesn't tell us why.

"That the missiles are called tomahawks must enrage a lot of Native Americans," tweeted Jeffrey on April 8.

Odds are Jeffrey never consulted a single Native American to find out.

We can tell you that sane people were offended by Jeffrey's tweet while asking the Mo'Jones editor "are you nuts?"

"Real journalists must be enraged that you call yourself one of them," Aussie_in_America tweeted back.

House King tweeted a nifty idea to avoid offending anyone: "The 'tomahawk missile' will now be known as 'Gender neutral Unicorn horns."

We don't know about you but tomahawk is kind of a cool name for a cruise missile designed for its pinpoint accuracy and lethal effect.

Native Americans might actually feel proud that something their ancestors invented shares the same name with something else but just as awesome.

According to Wikipedia, the Algonquian Indians in early America created the multi-purpose tomahawk.

"Before Europeans came to the continent, Native Americans would use stones attached to wooden handles, secured with strips of rawhide. Though typically used as weapons, they could also be used for everyday tasks, such as chopping, cutting or hunting," Wikipedia adds.

And for blowing up things -- but that only applies to the missiles called "tomahawks."

What Jeffrey is advocating is a kind of exclusive copyright for minority terminology, meaning only Native Americans are allowed to use "tomahawk" without being accused of being politically incorrect or racist.

Such is the sorry state of multicultural America.

Please share this on Facebook if Mother Jones Editor Clara Jeffrey is making much ado about nothing about "tomahawk missile."
