Laila Alawa

At a point in time when the United States has suffered a terror attack every 6-months on average, with increasing boldness, viciousness, and loss of life, clear-eyed leadership that sends a strong signal to the enemy while reassuring the American people is called for.

However, not only does America not have a Winston Churchill or Franklin Roosevelt to speak honest truths, we have a man in President Obama who finds himself unable or unwilling to even name the enemy even when faced with the reality of attacks against innocents in San Bernardino, Boston, and Orlando, and servicemen in Chattanooga and Little Rock.

Radical. Islamic. Terrorism.

The words should not be difficult for the American commander-in-chief, but Obama is a different type of president who often defies logic and reason.

As an example in point, Obama’s latest appointee to the Department of Homeland Security Advisory Council, which is charged with providing the U.S. government with advice on sensitive matters of national security – such as terror threats.

Obama chose Laila Alawa, a 25-year-old Syrian immigrant who publically praised the terror attacks in New York and Washington D.C. on September 11, 2001 that killed over 3,000 Americans, posting on her Facebook page in 2014, “they changed the world for good and there’s no other way to say it.”

Alawa is one of only 15 people serving on the Council’s Subcommittee on Countering Violent Extremism, the same subcommittee that made the recommendation to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson, that words “sharia” and “jihad” be avoided within the department when discussing terrorism.

The report also recommended that the DHS “adapt to the changing nature of violent extremism itself” by paying more attention to “anarchists, sovereign citizens, white-supremacists, and others.”

In other words, sovereign citizens are more of a threat than the Tsarnaev brothers?

Than the San Bernardino couple who slaughtered coworkers who had given them a baby shower?

Than Omar Mateen – the man who lingered over the bleeding victims on the floor of the Pulse nightclub for three hours texting, checking his Facebook page, and calling the media to make certain his devotion to ISIS is clear?

The president once again shows why many Americans no longer feel resentment when he escapes the Oval Office and heads to the golf course.

Quite simply – we are safer when he is on the links than when he is attempting to lead.
