In the week following his victory in the Indiana primary and the subsequent withdrawal from the race for the Republican nomination by rivals Sen. Ted Cruz and Gov. John Kasich, Donald Trump has faced demands that he release his tax returns, address questions ranging from transgender bathrooms and trade agreements, name his vice-president and Supreme Court picks, and bear responsibility of unifying the GOP.

Yet, in the midst of this whirlwind, he has soared in national polls, pulling even with Hillary Clinton, the presumptive Democrat candidate Trump will face in the November general election.

As recently as one week ago, the billionaire businessman trailed the former Secretary of State by 13 points, but the latest Reuters poll shows a stunning 12-point gain that puts the two virtually neck and neck as the candidates head into the final weeks of primary season.

The Reuters national poll has Clinton at 41 percent of likely voters and Trump at 40 percent, with a 3 percent margin of error.

Significantly, Trump, whose candidacy was mocked by many as an ego-driven publicity stunt when he first announced last June, has pulled even with Clinton in the must-win states of Florida, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

Clinton has been unable to put the race away, or as Trump claims, “close the deal,” against the tenacious socialist senator from Vermont, 74-year-old Bernie Sanders, and continues to be dogged by voter perception of her as unlikable, unsympathetic and untrustworthy.

In addition, a steady stream of revelations from both the FBI and federal courts about Clinton’s secret email server during her tenure as the nation’s top diplomat during President Obama’s first term is putting questions about her ethics front and center in the news cycle.

On Thursday, the Wall Street Journal broke a story raising questions about financial dealings by the Clinton family charitable foundation, and a movie based on the book, Clinton Cash, is set to premier at the Cannes Film Festival.
