IRS has now “recovered” 30,000 missing Lerner emails.
Federal investigators have told Congress staffers that they have recovered data that may include emails from one of the pivotal in the controversy over the Internal Revenue Service’s treatment tea party group. They said, the emails were found among hundreds of disaster recovery tapes that were used to back up the IRS email system. However, the investigators said the emails could include misleading information because it is not clear how many of them are duplicates or were already produced by Lerner to the congressional committee.
A lot of questions surround Lerner, she openly told a Congress committee that she had done nothing wrong and refused to answer the questions of lawmakers, citing her constitutional protection against self-incrimination. Though it is not clear whether the investigators found all the missing e-mails, there may be a significant information about this discovery. Let Lerner come out clearly and tell the oversight committee about her mindset and who she was communicating with outside the IRS during a critical period when the IRS was targeting conservative group.
Why did the IRS agency first fail to report the loss of e-mails to Congress and then misleadingly tried to declare the e-mails of Lerner ware gone and lost forever? Once again, it is apparent that IRS has not been transparent with the Americans and the Congress. The only sure way the emails of Lerner could be truly be missing is when the management information system staffs responsible for the daily operations conspired to misplace, hide, or physically delete the email server backup. An organization as large and important as the IRS must have more than one email server site and what has been reported just cannot happen.
It is becoming clear that the Obama Administration used the IRS and other enforcement agencies to silence conservative during the 2010 and 2012 election cycles. As a matter of fact, Lerner retired after acknowledging the agency’s inappropriate actions and invoked her Fifth Amendment Right at two separate congressional hearings on that matter. This is unfortunate and American are not ready to accept such a mega scandal.
