Yesterday a 'military type' ordnance washed up along the shore of St. Pete beach in Southwest Florida. After initial response from the local police, the Hillsborough Bomb Squad was called in to assist, who in turn sought the help of the local military experts at Mac Dill Air Force Base.

The mystery device was later identified as a WWII Era 100lb Photoflash Bomb. The ordnance wasn't designed to do major explosive damage, but authorities still decided it was best to dispose of the item right on the beach rather than risk discharge when transporting it away from the area. Several houses were evacuated as a precaution, but the detonation went off without any issues or injuries.
