The culture war has finally gone full circle, and those individuals and institutions that directly or indirectly make a living from the NFL are stepping up and taking sides, however not all of it is based on simple moral principles, of what is right, moreover at the end of the day ones moral principles comes down to perhaps “the bottom line” in which “profit” becomes the motivating principle.

And after a week of continuous chaos surrounding the antics of the NFL, the players and the owners it’s obvious that the fans have spoken regarding box office receipts.

However, characters like NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell who is actually responsible for creating the chaos in the first place due to his total incompetence much like those disgruntled players have little regard for the fans siding with his players stating “The way we reacted today, and this weekend made me proud. I'm proud of our league.” However, it seems that the fans aren't too proud after a double-digit drop in ratings.

Moreover the reality is that the league has suffered a public relations nightmare which translates into massive financial losses, bleeding red-ink that if continued will doom the entire season, along with millions upon millions of dollars in lost revenues from advertisers, broadcasters, that will impact everything from merchandising to sports bars across the country.

According to Newsday Fox Sports has decided on a strategy of simply not showcase the National Anthem on TV, in effect boycotting it, with the hope that fans will go along with the obvious snub. It’s a calculated risk which might actually backfire.

Fox Sports President Eric Shanks commented; “The standard procedure is not to show them because of the way the commercial format works and the timing of the anthem to get to the kickoff. So I think we're going to pay attention to events. Who knows what’s going to happen? A lot of time is happening between now and then. But I think the plan would be to get back to a normal schedule. I think that’s where we sit today on a Tuesday ... It seems like there’s more than 24 hours in a day now, doesn't there?”

Do you think Fox Sports doubling down by not showing the opening ceremony of the National Anthem actually draws more attention to Fox boycotting the National Anthem?
