There is nothing quite so terrifying as the knowledge that lone wolf terrorism is the crime of the future. The attacks in Paris, San Bernardino, and Indonesia were all carried out by small, clumsy but highly motivated terrorists whose only goal was to cause death and panic.

Thankfully the FBI is finally doing something right for a change and has arrested a would-be lone wolf gunman before he had a chance to kill.

Samy Mohamed Hamzeh is a 23-year-old Wisconsin man who was arrested before he had a chance to carry out his plot to assault a Masonic temple in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Hamzeh had reportedly obtained a machine gun and other illegal weapons and was plotting the terror strike himself.

In what the FBI has referred to as recordings between Hamzeh and informants, the Muslim man expressed a twisted sense of excitement at planning a terrorist attack that would be "known all over the world."

"Such operations will increase in America when they hear about it," Hamzeh said.  "The people will be scared and the operations will increase and there will be problems all over . . . this will lead to people clashing with each other. This way we will be igniting it."

According to FBI reports Hamzeh had laid plans that would allow him to kill 30 people, a very high number of casualties for a lone wolf attack.

This isn't the first plot that the FBI has interrupted from Hamzeh. Last year the Muslim terrorist wanted to travel to Israel to attack citizens along the West Bank, a highly contested area of that country. He ended up not going because of money issues, but the desire was concerning enough that the FBI began tracking him.

America needs to do a better job of protecting ourselves against lone wolf gunmen like this Hamzeh. While stopping the crime before it is committed is a step forward, the greater step is to confront the problem at its source. Islamism must not be allowed to gain a foothold in America.
