The one thing you can always expect from Donald Trump is the unexpected! And if it concerns veterans you can certainly rest assured it will be unexpected, as was the case during the heat of the debates when “The Donald” decided to skip the Fox debate and instead hold a last-minute telethon for America’s war heroes, raising over $6-million in donations.
So when the billionaire businessman and Republican frontrunner called on a wounded veteran named Todd at a rally held in Sioux City, Iowa, the Army vet of 21-years began to talk about his frustration with the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Trump immediately left the stage to personally meet Todd and his wife who spoke about Todd’s disabilities and the VA’s inability to set up a simple appointment so that Todd can get the care he desperately needs.
“You’re going to write out your card, and I am going to put pressure on the VA like you won’t believe,” Trump said to major applause from the crowd. “As president, I can guarantee it. As Trump I can say, ‘I’ll probably be able to pull it off anyway.’”
The Republican presidential candidate also laid out what he would do as president to fix the VA.
“The waits are unbelievable,” Trump said. Five, six, seven days sometimes.”
Trump said that, as president, he would allow veterans to get care from their private doctors at the government’s expense if they can’t get an appointment with the VA. Trump said that would end up costing less money and patients would receive better care – and without the long waits.
No doubt about it, always expect the unexpected with Trump!
