Cuban Film Director Explains How America is Becoming a Communist Country
Agustin Blazquez was a young actor and filmmaker who began his career even before graduation from drama school, performing on radio, television and in the theater, as well as directing his own films, but he left everything behind – including the actual reels of film – fleeing his native Cuba in 1965.
Today he tells an interviewer for The Daily Caller News Foundation that he didn’t believe Cuba would become a communist country and now sees his adopted home taking the same route and fears where it will end.
Blazquez, who is now an American citizen, has written extensively about the realities of life under the Castro regime and released numerous documentaries, says the media and left-leaning celebrities wrap the truth in myth and propaganda in popular culture by glamorizing figures like the dictator and his second-in-command, Ché Guevara.
Instead, Blazquez relies on interviews eyewitness accounts and interviews with survivors of the Cuban police state to tell the real story, although traditional outlets for documentaries, such as PBS, often refuse to air his work.
The Cuban native says the left has cleverly used “non-threatening words, like liberal, progressive and concerned citizens,” as euphemisms for the increased government control of American lives that has taken place during the Obama administration.
Watching the American president travel to Cuba made him “want to throw up,” Blazquez says bluntly. “This was a “betrayal to victims of communism. There are so many [Nelson] Mandelas in Cuban prisons, who are tortured, denied medical attention and abused.”
The outspoken Blazquez said the enthusiastic support of American students for self-avowed socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders is “absurd,” but warns that the powerful and elite have the most to lose if the United States slides “toward the erosion of liberties.”
“Wake up, America!” the Cuban-American proclaims. “The left has anesthetized too many Americans who do not defend the values that made America exceptional.”
