Coffee Shop Owner Puts ‘Offensive’ Message On Sign, Gets A Whole Lot More Than He Bargained For
One local Roanoke coffee shop owner decided to make a very important point by writing something on the coffee shop sign outside his shop. The coffee shop owner decided he was sick and tired of seeing this one thing over and over from a certain group of his customers. So he made it a point to write a bold message on his board outside without any regard as to who might be upset or offended by his brutally honest sign. He never expected it to blow up so much and before long he had the whole town voicing their opinions about his outstanding sign.
Shortly after he put up the sign a picture was taken and posted on the internet, where it went absolutely viral. The coffee shop's owner Austin Simms explained that he never meant to get so much attention when he originally wrote the message on his sandwich board sign outside his coffee shop, CUPS Coffee & Tea in Roanoke, Virginia. Simms had grown tired with a certain type of behavior that he continued to see more and more of in modern society, so he decided to act and try to put a stop to it or at least keep it out of his store.
Simms made the decision to charge rude people more than polite people and give those with manners a discount.
"I decided because I need to solve all the injustices of the world to start charging more for people who didn’t take the time to say hello and connect and realize we’re all people behind the counter," Simms told WDBJ.
The sign reads,
"'One small coffee' — $5.00,"
"'One small coffee, please' — $3.00"
"'Hello, I’d like one small coffee please' — $1.75."
Simms reportedly put the sign out on Sunday and by Wednesday his shop was swarming with cameramen from multiple news stations looking to get the word out about the viral sign.
The sign has an important message, especially in a time when this country's young people seem to have completely forgot how to use manners. It shows just how far a little politeness can go and urges us to get back to our roots and treat people with courtesy and kindness just as so many of us were raised to do. We can only hope our younger generations have not departed to far from this path and can still learn such a valuable lesson.
Share this on facebook and show that even something as small as manners always carries great importance in our society.
