Military College Finally Makes Decision On Student’s Demand To Wear Hijab
For those not familiar with “The Citadel,” it is perhaps one of the most prominent military colleges in the country, located in Charleston, South Carolina, and established in 1842.
It has a proud historical tradition of instilling both a fine academic education infused with a strict military code of conduct, and as such any request by students to compromise those standards, would no doubt be rejected.
And perhaps that’s once again the true issue, in that a potential Muslim student entering this unique environment would even attempt to purposely challenge the military traditions and the essence of “The Citadel” and by extension America’s institutions, simply underscores where a segment of society is today
The issue of course isn’t whether this Muslim student be permitted to wear the hijab if she decides to enroll in the military school, the issue is whether this student by her request, understands the true significance of a military school, and what’s expected of her, and not the other way around.
“The standardization of cadets in apparel, overall appearance, actions and privileges is essential to the learning goals and objectives of the college,” said Citadel president Lt. Gen. John Rosa, “this process reflects an initial relinquishing of self during which cadets learn the value of teamwork to function as a single unit.”
Rosa said the American Muslim student who was accepted to the Class of 2020 had asked to wear the hijab with the Citadel’s blue, black and white uniform.
“While we hope the student will enroll in the college this fall, the Commandant of Cadets, after considerable review, determined the uniform exception cannot be granted,” he explained.
Cadet Nick Pinelli, who recently graduated from the Citadel, posted his concerns to Facebook about the news that school officials were considering the Muslim student’s request.
“This girl should be welcomed to the Corps with open arms, as should any person of any religion, race, gender, or identity,” he wrote. “That’s equality. It’s not equality to let one of those groups follow a different set of rules…”
Obviously the “politically correct world” of progressivism has taken its toll on our traditions and values, America is currently in the midst of a “political revolution” as to whether the “transformation” of America continues or not!
