Most critical thinking individuals are already aware states that claim to be liberal, tolerant, and fair-minded and governed mostly by Democrats, are ironically the most restrictive in regards to personal “civil liberties.”

Many of those “civil liberties” run the gamut from a loony progressive mayor restricting the size of a soda bottle larger than 16-ounces, to creating a coalition of political bureaucrats banning the level of salt restaurants are allowed to use within their own restaurants.

The loony mayor even justified his actions regarding his “soda ban” declaring: “We’re not taking away anybody’s right to do things, we’re simply forcing you to understand that you have to make the conscious decision to go from one cup to another cup.”

And although these states are governed by “progressive legislators” there’s one state that’s become an anomaly when it comes to progressive orthodoxy, and on Friday New Jersey Governor Chris Christie once again used his executive powers to commute the outrageous prison sentence of former Marine Sergeant Hisashi Pompey, for having an unregistered gun in New Jersey.

The incident took place 6-years ago when Pompey was visiting New Jersey and got into an altercation at a nightclub and his “LEGALLY REGISTERED” handgun in Virginia, had somehow found itself in the hands of one of Pompey’s friends who retrieved the gun, after the brief scuffle and “carried it into a confrontation with police.”

Of course, Pompey and his friend were quickly arrested, for bringing (although registered in Virginia) an “unregistered gun in New Jersey.”

Pompey served as an MP (military police) Sergeant, with three tours of duty in Iraq and later in Afghanistan, with a wife and young children, and was preparing to surrender himself to authorities for sentencing, when Governor Christie intervened on Friday.

When the news reached the Virginia resident that his minimum 36-month sentence for possession of an unregistered firearm, was commuted, Pompey responded; “Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God, this isn’t April Fools, right? I don’t know how to react. I’m grateful, grateful.”
