America is behaving like a dying empire. As her economy lies nearly in ruins, her porous borders are under constant siege by modern barbarian "Dreamers" seeking jobs that Americans both want, need, and deserve.

Our nation's military is spread far and wide with more than 800 military bases scattered around the globe. Yet we won't even invest properly in rebuilding our nation's crumbling infrastructure or reinvest in what remains of our heavily outsourced economy.

America's politicians seated on the left and on the right seem united only in their common belief that the answer to the "provocations" of our adversaries, both real, imagined, and encouraged by us, is the promise of even more war to keep our economy afloat for a while longer and the people thoroughly distracted.

At any moment, a major war to end all wars could break out between the U.S. and North Korea, between the U.S. and Syria, between the U.S. and China, between the U.S. and Russia, and between the U.S. and Iran, or any combination of the above.

It's really a matter of who is able to show restraint in the face of so many "provocations" that could trigger a major conflagration that nobody wants.

According to Fox News, a U.S. destroyer intercepted an Iranian "fast attack craft" in international waters. The vessel came within 1,000 yards of the American ship manned and ready.

The USS Mahan fired off warning flares, and the Iranian vessel veered away.

Americans who have never been in battle have grown accustomed to thinking that war is a televised event. That they can just sit back in the comfort of the family room, crack open a beer, and watch the carnage unfold -- and they will enjoy this spectator sport, so long as their side is winning.

How many of us have bothered to ask ourselves even once -- whose interests have been served by 15 years of war and still counting?

A catastrophe was averted in the Persian Gulf on Monday because the commander of the American destroyer possessed true wisdom and restraint while under intense pressure and the commander of the Iranian vessel had the good sense to back off and leave.

Please share this on Facebook if Make America Great Again is still possible in an age of terror.
