Two men burst into the offices of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in Paris today and opened fire killing at least 12 people and possibly more. Police officers were included in the death toll with 4 more people in critical condition. The gunmen brandished Kalashnikov submachine guns and escaped by car after the shooting. French authorities have promised to track them down. "We then heard them open fire inside, with many shots," a witness told BMFTV "We were all evacuated to the roof. After several minutes, the men fled, after having continued firing in the middle of the street." The witness also reported seeing a rocket launcher. This has been declared a terrorist attack by the French government. The magazine had tweeted a tweet just yesterday mocking ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi with the words, "And, above all, health."

The magazine had come under intense protest from Muslims for publishing cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammed in the past. As I am sure many have heard Muslims have a real issue with using the prophet in any cartoons. Speculation is that the terrorist attack is due to these cartoons and tweets. If these terrorists are willing to kill more than a dozen innocent people over a cartoon they don't agree with then they are clearly insane. There is no other way to describe this attack. It is not rational by any means and illustrates that we are dealing with an enemy that can not be reasoned with. No group has claimed responsibility as of yet.
