The shootings in Dallas were only the beginning. Police officers across the country are being targeted and a situation in Indianapolis, Indiana which could have gone tragically wrong was only stopped by the grace of God.

A former felon who was released after serving half of his 12-year prison sentence shot the home of an Indianapolis Metro Police Department officer with a 9mm pistol. According to authorities, March Eugene Ratney shot 17 times into the officer's home, car, and fence. Thankfully the officer and his family were all safe from harm.

At the time of the shooting Ratney was wearing a "Black Lives Matter" t-shirt and screaming obscenities against the police.

Ratney had been in prison for committing a violent crime with a weapon and the police were alerted to the situation when Ratney's sister said that he was threatening her with a gun.

Once taken into custody, Ratney denied that he had participated in the shooting and eventually got up and urinated in the police interrogation room. Police concluded the interview and Ratney will likely be prosecuted for possession of a firearm and for breaking his parole.

Muhammad Siddeeq, a clergy leader in Indianapolis said that Ratney was no part of the "Black Lives Matter" movement and denied that Ratney represented any part of the movement or was associated with them in any way.

"He is not a part of the movement and you can tell he’s not a part of the movement just in his approach to this whole issue," Siddeeq said.

Black Lives Matter, however, was protesting in Indianapolis close to the time of the shooting and it's likely that Ratney was associated in some way with the group, otherwise he wouldn't have been able to gain possession of the shirt he wore during the shooting.

Is this really how Americans are treating our democracy and our police force? Shooting up their homes in the middle of the night? We need to stop this. It just needs to stop.
