Border Agents Say 3 Involved With Traffic Stop Where Deputy Was Killed Are Illegals
A tragic traffic stop that left a Florida deputy dead involved at least three illegal aliens according to a agents from the U.S. Border Patrol, and one of them is still at large.
Two Nassau County sheriff’s deputies and a border agent were investigating a pick-up truck parked at a gas station with five persons inside when the incident occurred.
Three of the five, suspected of being in the country without clearance, had been removed from the vehicle for detention, when a fourth jumped out and ran across a buy state highway with one of the deputies in pursuit.
As he chased the illegal, Deputy Eric Oliver was struck by a car.
He died at the scene.
When the unidentified Border Patrol agent ran to aid Oliver, the fifth person in the pick-up drove off in it, but was apprehended and taken into custody.
The illegal whose attempted escape led to the deputy’s death remains at large with a coordinated effort among multiple law enforcement agencies ongoing at this time.
Please note: FHP originally said there were around six people in the pickup. Border Patrol reports a different number. At this time we only know the person that ran across S.R. 200 is a male - no other identifying information about any other person inside the pickup has been released.
