‘American soil is the past, we will destroy America…’ Claims Homegrown Terror Suspect.
You may remember those FBI and Homeland Security warnings around the time around the 4th of July, it may have had something to do with Harlem Suarez, a.k.a “Almlak Benitez”, 23, of Stock Island, Florida. The man who tried and failed to buy a bomb in a plot to plan the device on a crowded beach during a holiday celebration. This came after repeated sympathetic messages and communications from Suarez to various ISIS social media contacts.
He came to the attention of the FBI after getting a tip from an acquaintance of Suarez who says he was already trying to recruit fellow friends online. The FBI monitored Suarez while he filmed a recruitment video where he made the statement; "American soil is the past, we will destroy America and divide it in two, we will rais(e) our black flag on top of your white house and any president on duty (head cutting motion)." Clearly a deranged, yet motivated person.
His goal was to show the video to other Muslim groups in the Miami area, thankfully that never came to pass. On July 27th Suarez took possession of a dummy inert explosive device and was arrested by undercover agents. “The top priority of the Department of Justice is to protect the security of the American people. The U.S. Attorney’s Office, in collaboration with the FBI, works tirelessly to advance this mission by continuing to thwart home-grown acts of terrorism,” said U.S. Attorney Wifredo A. Ferrer. Suarez is currently charged with knowingly attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction against a person or property within the United States.
Suarez arrived in the US in 2004 from Cuba and still lives with his parents, who claim he was simply curious about the Muslim religion and was just trying to provoke a reaction by posting violent and disturbing messages. Yea right. So while it might be a stretch to call him 'homegrown', he's not some jihadists ranting and raving 10,000 miles away. Thankfully now, he's located in a jail cell.
