5 Things You Need to Know About This Year’s 4th of July Celebration.
Here is a quick list of important information you should be aware of ahead of this years 4th of July celebration...
1. The Terror Alert has been raised due to possible attacks during the holiday festivities.
The FBI and the Department of Homeland Security has released a joint bulletin to law enforcement country-wide, warning of extremist activities that could play out during the holiday celebration. Again, there is no direct threat outlined in the bulletin, but with recent acts of random violence abroad on the part of rogue elements, US federal agents and local law enforcement will be on there 'A' game this weekend.
2. The largest US Air Base in England had to cancel its 4th of July plans.
Yes, with the threat of terror even higher abroad, the RAF Lakenheath, home of the US 48th Fighter Wing, released the following statement upon the cancellation: "It is with heavy hearts that we announce the 2015 4th of July Celebration, set to be held at RAF Feltwell, is cancelled. The decision was made due to the most current, local threat assessments. We make every effort to ensure the safety of our Airmen, their families and our U.K. partners and must make difficult decisions like this when lives are on the line." This affects thousands of enlisted and their families living overseas.
3. Some armed forces veterans are asking for a little peace and quiet.
While fireworks are an ingrained part of our 4th of July celebration ritual, some armed forces veterans are asking for a little consideration due to issues of PTSD, post-traumatic stress disorder, for their time in live combat. While this new wave of signs isn't without it's controversy, with some citizens and even other veterans saying the request is too hard to accommodate during the celebratory weekend, others have altered arrangements to work around the needs of those who served our country. No matter where you stand on the issue, it's likely we will see these signs for years to come.
4. Major food recalls could affect what's on your BBQ grill or picnic table.
Cooking out and picnic fare is another major part of the 4th of July holiday, but this year there at least two recalls that could be affecting what's on your plate. A major beef recall was ordered just ahead of this weekend and another major recall was on buns and other baked goods, so if you bought your fixings early, be sure to see if your state or local area is affected.
5. If you can't make it to any live firework events, you can still watch them on T.V.
